The Order of the Preachers was born as a family and the different members share the common charism of Preaching the Word of God.

We are a family with different faces: nuns, friars, apostolic sisters, secular priests living in a fraternity and laity living in a fraternity or in a secular institute. Each branch has its own character and autonomy. However, sharing the same charisma of Saint Dominique, we share the same vocation which is the proclamation of the Gospel. So was the intention of Saint Dominic and, in fact, the first foundation in Prouilhe had in fact both a prior and a prioress!

We preach the Word who was made Flesh. This Word of God can be made flesh in us, through what we say and who we are. Being a preacher means that each of us is sent to those he meets.

Saint Dominic spent his nights in prayer. There he fond the source of his passion and of his preaching. We ought to take his cry on our account: " What will become of sinners ?" It is not possible to show compassion for the sinners without showing compassion for those who suffer in our chaotic world where the forces of evil are raging.

The Dominican Family has about 150 000 members living in 108 different countries.

Together, we will try to be a living Word.
